Il lago Smeraldo è un piccolo specchio d’acqua a pochi passi dal centro storico di Fondo.

The Emerald lake is a small body of water a few steps from the historic center of Fondo.

L’origine del lago è abbastanza recente, risale infatti al 1965, quando venne creato artificialmente a scopo turistico. Per farlo venne sbarrato il corso del rio della Malga, dando vita a uno specchio d’acqua che occupa una superficie di circa 10.000 metri quadrati.

The origin of the lake is quite recent, in fact it dates back to 1965, when it was artificially created for tourism purposes. To do this, the course of the Malga stream was blocked, creating a body of water that occupies an area of ​​about 10,000 square meters.

Il lago è situato ad un’altitudine di 1.000 metri sul livello del mare. Intorno ci sono le alte montagne con crinali verdissimi, grazie ai boschi che vi sono cresciuti sopra.

The lake is located at an altitude of 1,000 meters above sea level. All around are the high mountains with very green ridges, thanks to the woods that have grown over them.




Un’ottimo e ben mantenuto sentiero, permette di fare un giro attorno al lago Smeraldo, le sue dimensioni sono modeste, quindi saranno sufficienti una quindicina di minuti.

An excellent and well-maintained path allows you to go around the Emerald lake, its dimensions are modest, therefore about fifteen minutes will be sufficient.

La sua forma è allungata e durante l’estate non dovrebbe essere difficile trovare tante persone a farci il bagno, il lago è infatti balneabile.

Its shape is elongated and during the summer it shouldn’t be difficult to find many people to swim in it, the lake is in fact suitable for swimming.

Inizialmente il lago venne semplicemente chiamato lago di Fondo. Osservandolo poi meglio, due maestre del posto, notarono che i riflessi del cielo e degli alberi circostanti davano a questo lago il bellissimo colore smeraldo. Proprio grazie a loro oggi il lago si chiama Lago Smeraldo.

Initially the lake was simply called Lago di Fondo. Looking at it better, two local teachers noticed that the reflections of the sky and the surrounding trees gave this lake a beautiful emerald color. Thanks to them today the lake is called Lago Smeraldo.

Il lago non è grandissimo; ha una superficie di circa 10 mila metri quadrati e il giro attorno è infatti lungo meno di un chilometro.

The lake is not very big; it has an area of ​​about 10,000 square meters and the circuit around it is in fact less than a kilometer long.
Il Lago è un perfetto punto di partenza per piccole passeggiate. Alcune panoramiche ed altre immerse nel bosco. Dal lago è possibile raggiungere la Malga di Fondo e l’orto botanico.

The lake is a perfect starting point for small walks. Some panoramic and others immersed in the woods. From the lake it is possible to reach the Malga di Fondo and the botanical garden.
Il posto è ideale per trascorrere un pomeriggio di relax. Dispone infatti di ampie rive di prato per distendersi a prendere il sole.

The place is ideal for spending a relaxing afternoon. In fact, it has wide banks of lawn for relaxing in the sun.
L’area è attrezzata con tavoli da picnic ma per chi volesse fermarsi per un pranzo gustoso o un aperitivo, sono presenti due strutture che offrono servizio bar e ristorazione con vista sul lago.

The area is equipped with picnic tables but for those wishing to stop for a tasty lunch or an aperitif, there are two structures that offer bar and restaurant services overlooking the lake.


Non è ancora tempo di bagni per noi, ma non la pensano così intere colonie di rospi.

It’s not yet bath time for us, but whole colonies of toads don’t think so.

È possibile raggiungere questa destinazione anche direttamente in automobile. Qui sopra passa la strada e ci sono molteplici parcheggi.

This destination can also be reached directly by car. The road passes above here and there are multiple parking lots.
Il nostro giro ormai è concluso. Nella sponda opposta è ben visibile il punto dove esonda il surplus d’acqua e si ode chiaro il rumore della cascata.

Our tour is now over. On the opposite bank, the point where the excess water overflows is clearly visible and the sound of the waterfall is clearly heard.
